Haydar Aliyev Cultural Center

The cultural center structure, designed by Zaha Hadid, has opened its doors on a 101.000 meters square area in Baku and contains a concert hall, a conference hall, a library, a museum and art galleries and its landscape project was finalized by a long planning and research process concerning the botanical infrastructure and a plant selection that completely fills the integral indoor volume which has a 128 meter ceiling modulation without columns. A vegetation design that can handle the light intensity and volume in the indoor space and would ensure high performance dominated the design. The decision was made to use Bucida Buceras, one of the endemic species of Florida and each tree used was selected on site to have the characteristic of being the longest tree that could be planted indoors in the whole continental Europe (8-9 meters). The appropriate fogging and fertilizer mixed drip irrigation systems and soil improvers containing the necessary micro and macro nutrients were specially formulated and were brought to Baku from different locations in Europe by plane. The project can be considered to be one of a kind with its characteristic that answers the volume it wraps in addition to all technical parameters and the project design process.
